Choosing the right Occupational Therapist for your
special needs child is one of your most important
decisions

So why choose Lori Rothman?

The Lori Rothman difference is trust from over 40 years of successful experience. It is the parents’ trust in knowing they are dealing with a straightforward expert in regard to their challenged child. I am someone who has a proven track record and is an expert in combining Floortime Relationship Therapy, Neurodevelopmental Therapy (NDT), Sensory Integration Therapy (SI) and aspects of Physical Therapy. I provide at home treatment and telehealth which provides more real life experiences at the moment! This encourages problem solving together with parents and care givers. In each case, the individual difference are used to create a strength base model.

So what does this translate to plain language? I come from a medical background at Rusk Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine rather than a school based one. This allows me to look much more intently on how the body works and how that impacts the child’s sensory system (ie – touch, movement, smell, sounds and more). I combine all of that with my added knowledge of being a Floortime Trained Therapist (Relationship Model). I deal with the whole child.

I do the initial evaluations through standardized testing and clinical observations as it relates to the social emotional skills child’s core, balance, sports skills, handwriting, classroom behavior and management just to name a few.

After working closely with the parents, I then collaborate with all team members. In addition, I do first hand school visit observations including a write-up in order to develop an on-going plan that works!

I have dealt with thousands of challenged children during a career that has spanned over 40 years. This includes, but not limited to, children with Autism, Hypotonia, Torticollis, Cerebral Palsy, ADHD and genetic abnormalities. I have also published on the topic of Autism.
